Anniversary edition

Technical Road Days is one of the oldest conferences in Poland devoted to road engineering issues. The first conference was held in 1957 in Krakow under the name "Krakow Road Engineers' Days." Since 1976, the conference has been known as Technical Road Days.

This year's 65th anniversary edition will take place in Łódź on November 17-18, 2025.

      Climate-resilient roads – growing requirements for infrastructure resilience to the effects of climate change and extreme weather events; Environmental requirements and climate pressure – reduction of noise and CO2 emissions, decarbonization of road construction and maintenance, renewable energy sources in road engineering, protection of wildlife habitats; Aging infrastructure – experiences with road maintenance in other countries; Integration with new technologies – development of intelligent transport systems (ITS) and traffic management systems, development of autonomous vehicles and electromobility, common unified toll collection systems).

      Panel led by Director Marek Żmijan from GDDKiA (participant in many international projects and rapporteur for the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe as part of the UNECE Trans-European North-South Motorway Project (TEM) project), with the participation of Apostolos Dzidzikostas, European Commissioner for Sustainable Transport and Tourism, Dariusz Joński, Member of the European Parliament and member of the EU Parliament’s Committee on Transport and Tourism, and representatives of the Conference of European Directors of Roads (CEDR) and the World Road Association (PIARC), with the participation of the chairmen of PIARC Technical Committees TC 4.5 and TC 4.6 from Poland – Dr. Janusz Bohatkieiwcz, Prof. IBDiM, and Dr. Mariusz Kieć, Prof. PK.

      Discussion panel: Local government panel

      Issues: Delays in competitions and procedures – problems resulting from the long and complicated process of issuing administrative decisions, the need to deregulate regulations, late adoption of plans and programs for financing local government roads at the national level. Financing and shortage of funds – Government Fund for Local Government Road Development, Strategic Investment Program, European funds, Rising costs and difficult tenders – dynamic price changes and a lengthy tender and investment process, the need to maintain the appropriate scope and quality of works).
      Panel with the participation of the Chairman of the Convention of Provincial Road Authority Directors – Director Zbigniew Tabor from ZDW Katowice, invited Marshals and City Presidents (including Marshal Adam Struzik – Mazovia, Marshal Łukasz Prokorym – Podlasie, Marshal Szymon Ogłaza – Opole Province) and Members of the Polish Parliament who are members of the Infrastructure Committee (including MP Stefan Krajewski).

      Presentation session: Environmental protection and circular economy

      The use of plastics in road construction and alternative materials, recycling – one of the key topics discussed at global conferences due to the “green deal.” In Poland, we are currently entering a period of modernization of road surfaces built since the early 2000s, especially after Poland’s accession to the EU.

      The need for smart maintenance strategies and the proper use (including assessment) of recycled materials – Prof. Tomasz Siwowski, Rzeszów University of Technology, and Krzysztof Błażejowski, MAPEI Polska; Road noise and pavement solutions that reduce its emission – Prof. Władysław Gardziejczyk, Białystok University of Technology; Water and environmental protection issues – Wody Polskie and the General Directorate for Environmental Protection.
